Trail Development & Stewardship
At COORJC, we believe that being a Jeeper comes with a responsibility to the land. We are dedicated to maintaining the trails we have and responsibly scouting new ones to expand the legal off-road network in Central Ontario.
Our Mission
To promote responsible off-roading through education, environmental stewardship, and active trail maintenance. As proud members of the OF4WD Adopt-a-Trail Program, we provide the labor and stewardship required to keep our local trails sustainable, clean, and open.

Adopted Trails
The club takes a lead role in the maintenance, clearing, and monitoring of:
-
Gooderham Trail (Haliburton County)
-
Jack’s Lake (Peterborough County)
Submit a Trail for Investigation
Found a trail that isn't on the OF4WD Trail Index? Or perhaps a historical route that needs clearing and verifying? Our team is always looking for "new to us" trails to explore, map, and protect for future use.
To submit a trail for consideration, please email Trails@coorjc.com with the following:
-
Location: Nearest town, intersection, or GPS coordinates of the trailhead.
-
Current Condition: Is it overgrown? Are there washouts, deep mud, or downed trees?
-
Trail Photos: Pictures of the entrance or major obstacles help us plan the gear needed.
-
GPS Track: If you have a .GPX file or a recording (onX, Gaia, Trailforks), please attach it.
Leadership & Support
COORJC operates with a streamlined leadership model supported by the passion of our member-volunteers.
-
Director of Trail Development & Operations: John McLean
-
Coordinates with the OF4WD, manages club-led projects, and organizes official volunteers.
Join the Volunteer Support Crew
Our volunteers are the "boots on the ground" who assist with trail clearing, scouting runs, and reporting conditions.
-
For General Maintenance: We welcome all members for cleanup and light maintenance days.
-
For Trail Development: Experience is necessary. Scouting and technical clearing require advanced wheeling skills, recovery knowledge, and experience with trail-building tools. We look for members who understand "Tread Lightly" principles and can navigate unmapped terrain safely.
To join the crew, please email John Mclean at John@coorjc.com or contact the team at Trails@coorjc.com.
Mandatory Mission Gear
Scouting and clearing runs require self-sufficiency. Team members must be equipped with the following for every development outing:
-
Navigation: Mobile device or tablet with offline GPS mapping (Gaia/onX/Avenza).
-
Recovery: Functioning winch, tree savers, rated shackles, and kinetic recovery ropes.
-
Mechanical Repair Kit: Full set of wrenches, sockets, pliers, and common trail-fix tools/spare parts.
-
Trail Clearing: Chainsaw (with proper PPE), folding saws, or heavy-duty loppers.
-
Safety: Mounted fire extinguisher, comprehensive first-aid/trauma kit, and spill kit.
-
Comms: GMRS/FRS radio and/or satellite communication for remote scouting.
