Become a Guide or Gunner
The Central Ontario Off-Road Jeep Club (COORJC) is officially seeking to expand our 2026 Trail Guide Team. This is your chance to be a leader, a mentor, and the reason our runs are safe and legendary.
🧭 The Lead Guide
As a Lead Guide, you are the commanding officer of the excursion. You carry the ultimate responsibility for the success of the run, from the initial planning stages to the final "air-up.
"The Trail Guide is a noble goal... you must exude confidence at all times. Even when concerned, try not to show it." — David Bradshaw
The Responsibilities:
-
The Architect: You are responsible for creating the event on the Club Calendar and the Facebook Members Only page.
-
The Pathfinder: You scout the trails, map the routes, and determine fuel stops and meeting times.
-
The Point Man: You must know the path at all times. You stay "on alert" to ensure the group stays on course.
-
The Spotter: You coach drivers through tough spots, pick the lines, and teach "Tread Lightly" ethics.
-
The Trail Boss: You manage the group size, mechanical conflicts, and overall safety.

Exclusive Lead Guide Incentives:
-
FREE MEMBERSHIP: Lead 5+ Runs as a Lead Guide and your next year’s COORJC Membership Renewal is FREE.
-
Clean Air: You stay in the front, out of the dust.
-
Total Control: You set the agenda and do it "your way."
-
Recognition: Gain official recognition as a COORJC Trail Guide and represent the club at shows and events.

⚓ The Tail Gunner
The Gunner is the "Sweep" vehicle. While the Lead Guide manages the logistics and the front of the pack, the Gunner ensures the tail end of the line remains intact and supported.
Key Duties:
-
Communication: Inform the Guide when the group has cleared turns or if gaps are forming.
-
Recovery & Mechanics: Act as the primary hero for stuck vehicles or minor trail repairs.
-
Accountability: Count every vehicle after stops and ensure no gear or trash is left behind.
-
Ambassador: Thank oncoming traffic and landowners, maintaining COORJC’s reputation.
Gunner Perks:
-
Official Swag: Score the official Trail Guide Team Shirt.
-
VIP Access: Get early registration access for all club events.
-
On-the-Job Training: The perfect position to master trail mechanics and recovery while training to one day step up as a Lead Guide.
"I really enjoyed being a trail guide helping Jeep owners to realize their capabilities as well as their vehicles'. I loved seeing those smiles and hearing the yells of joy after conquering the trail." — Lynda Nicholson Darling
⚠️ Requirements for the Team
-
Club Status: Must be an active COORJC member with a positive attitude.
-
Experience: Must be a confident and experienced off-road driver capable of reading terrain without a spotter.
-
Vehicle Specs: Minimum 33" tires, front/rear recovery points, and a winch.
-
Comms: Functional GMRS radio installed and tested.
-
Equipment: Must carry basic first aid and recovery gear (straps, shackles, etc.).
